Unlikely Bedfellows
Somewhat to my shock, my favorite living theologian, Wayne Grudem, has announced his support for Mitt Romney. As one of the leading evangelical thinkers of his time, Grudem makes a simple, but intriguing case. To read his article, visit Townhall. To be honest, Grudem's case has me seriously rethinking the 2008 election.

Hello Owen. Long time no see! I really liked the article, it's the first intelligent argument for any candidate I have seen this year. I must say that my first reaction to Romney was "He's a Mormon!" but Wayne makes sense. Keep up the good work.
Dear Dan,
It is always a pleasure to dialogue with you.
I found Grudem's arguments to be intriguing as well. To be honest, I had too quickly discarded Romney as an option. It is hard to say, but I'm going to prayerfully consider a Latter Day Saint as a viable candidate.
Love in Christ,
Owen
Hi ya Owen!
This posted article was written early in the race, and many of those who initially supported Romney as the Evangelical Christian choice have swung to Huckabee. That includes me, my father, and the more Godly believers I know. Neither of us knew enough about Huckabee. Normally October wouldn't seem "early", but in this tight race in 2008, it is. What I knew of the candidates in October is quite the contrast from today.
I will say that Romney's Mormonism had no effect on that decision for myself as a born again believer. Neither did the issue of "flip flopping" on abortion. We all have the right to change our minds, it depends on the circumstances and what the catalyst for that change was. I think his change on this topic was sincere. However, several of Romney's ads have been half truths that I have researched and would deem as lies against his opponents.
I have done quite a bit of Research on Huckabee, and feel he is as strong if not stronger as a Governor of his state when you really dig into the facts, but on top of that, I believe he is a solid Evangelical Christian as best as I can tell. I feel he has ran a much cleaner campaign than Romney. I have watched all the debates and do not like the way Romney carries his self.
That being said, Romney MAY be my second choice. ;) There is a lot more I can say, but I won't hog your blog responses.
God bless!
Hope things are well with you and the family. A lot seems to be happening in the political realm. The primary is still heavily contended by a myriad of candidates and nothing seems certain.
Romney has picked up quite a few very strong evangelical endorsements. I think part of the evangelical misgiving is from Huckabee's siding with the theological liberals in the Southern Baptist Convention during the fight for the SBC seminaries. Albert Mohler and crew still view him with a bit of reserved suspicion.
No one has united the evangelical vote as of yet. With strong leaders like Dobson sitting on the sidelines is apparent dismay at all of the weak choices, evangelicals may never gel.
All my best,
Owen
